EP 128: How to Take Time for Yourself as a Working Mom with Nilka Rodríguez
Manage episode 434162180 series 2996098
When you become a mother, you start asking yourself “what am I modeling for my child?” Would I want my child to pick up this habit of not taking care of herself? Today’s guest found herself in this exact position one day as she dropped her baby off at daycare. Suddenly, she could see how numb and muted she was becoming. That’s when she reached out to me for coaching!
Today, I’m chatting with a coaching client that just so happens to be a close friend from college as well! She’s passionate about serving people and inspiring women, especially women of color, to heal and take charge. We’re talking about the defining moment of becoming a mother. Nilka’s experience as a working woman who did not have a ton of familial support around her is incredibly inspiring!
We’re talking about what happens when you, as a mother, try to pretend like you’re the same person you were before having a child. And then we’re digging into exactly how Nilka worked through that difficult transition back into authenticity. For Nilka, the transformation started when she realized that she wanted to model a different way for her child. I can’t wait for you to hear more about Nilka and the book she’s writing titled “Muted,” dedicated to all of the women out there that are learning to live out loud!
In this episode, we’re chatting about:
- Addressing the feeling of “not enough-ness” that so many women face
- Why Nilka decided to prioritize her self-care and personal development to grow
- How prioritizing yourself can help you thrive in your relationships and career
- How Nilka learned to dream again
