What if Love could be the key to healing and emotional freedom? Hi, I’m Pascale Gibon, your host. In this episode of The Everyday Life Balance Show, I share how Love became my greatest healer and how it can become yours, too. Indeed, Love is a healing force and here is my story. “It's the first time I share this story with you. In my mid-twenties, the split between days of happiness and immense dissatisfaction was debilitating. In other words, I was on an emotional roller-coaster ride. I remember journaling a lot when I was a teenager. It was a great healing process. However, there was still a relationship I needed to heal—my relationship with my dad. My parents got divorced when I was three, and my dad's absence throughout my life meant that I felt rejected and struggled with self-acceptance. During my emotional roller-coaster in my mid-twenties, I realised something had to change. I needed to heal this sense of dissatisfaction and feel more stable emotionally. That's when I found Dr. Harry Barry, a renowned author and medic, and his powerful book: "Emotional Healing – How To Put Yourself Together Back Again," which is based on his years of research and experience in the field of emotional healing, and it transformed my life.” Here is what his book did for me: · I released any negative emotions that were sabotaging my wellbeing. · The most significant shift from pain to healing was when I did one of Dr Barry's processes and discovered the thoughts and memories in my subconscious that held me back. · I experienced the greatest emotional freedom. I had the most incredible revelation after Dr Harry Barry's healing process. This revelation did not happen immediately but months after undergoing some introspection. I realised that the hurt I felt had a purpose: to open my heart and grow in Love. As a result, I opened my heart and forgave my dad. I shifted from a place of anger and resentment to one of Love and gratitude. Indeed, I was grateful to my dad for giving me life, and his absence served the most positive purpose to grow in Love. Where would I be if I had not decided to heal my emotions? I would have contracted my heart from Love instead of opening it to more abundance and grace. Love is more than just a feeling; it's a choice we make every day. If you're wondering how to begin using Love as a healing tool, here are some simple steps to guide you: 1. Acknowledge the hurt or discomfort 2. Seek first to understand by understanding the other person's perspective 3. Choose to release the pain, even if it's hard. Healing might take time. 4. Practise gratitude for the lessons learnt. 5. Surround yourself with positive affirmations about Love and healing. Should you find yourself where I was and ready to heal the past hurt and emotions, it matters to do it with this outcome in mind: emotional freedom. Emotional freedom means being mindful of the present moment, waking up without the weight of past hurt, responding to life with peace rather than pain, and embracing every moment with an open heart. However, emotional freedom through expanding Love is even more powerful. It is the ability to feel all emotions without being controlled by them. It means acknowledging pain, fear, or anger without letting them dictate your actions or mood. You will overcome whatever shakes your emotional stability because you have built spiritual strength through your healing journey. Emotional freedom feels like being peaceful or choosing peace always over emotional turmoil. Let's do this heart-opening exercise together: Close your eyes lightly. Place your hand gently on your heart, and take a deep breath. As you inhale deeply, imagine Love filling your heart. As you exhale slowly, release any pain or resentment. You can say it out loud: I release any pain or resentment. Repeat this until your heart feels lighter. May this episode inspire you to embark on a healing journey. Are you ready to grow and be free? If so: Choose freedom over fear. Choose Love over life-long resentment. Choose wellbeing over dis-ease. Everybody naturally seeks happiness. However, let me share a secret of paramount importance: the more we embody Love as our guiding light and power, the happier we become. Unhealed pain can manifest as anxiety, resentment, jealousy, emotional roller-coaster or even physical illness. It limits our joy, keeps us in the past, clouds our judgment, and strains our relationships. Today, I invite you to start your healing journey. Reflect on what needs healing in your heart, and take one step towards Love and forgiveness. Write a letter to someone you need to forgive, even if you never send it. Surround the person you think about with Love, pour out your heart and then let it go. Remember, Love heals and frees. I look forward to connecting with you next Monday. Welcome to episode 379. Happy St. Valentine's Day on Friday! As we celebrate love this week, St Valentine's Day reminds us of its beauty in relationships. But love is more than just a connection with others; it’s also a connection with ourselves and the divine. Yet, over time, life's challenges or experiences can cause us to close our hearts and lose hope. Today, I want to explore how we can return to love and find true freedom within it as we embody a kind, giving, and compassionate heart. Don't believe the cynics who insinuate that a compassionate heart is a sign of weakness. No matter what happens in the world, as spiritual beings having a human experience, we must always return to love and find peace. For me, love is my strong and beautiful connection with the divine. It gives me strength. Through my faith in God's unconditional love and grace, I'm always grateful for my life because I know that life is always happening for me. In other words, challenges exist to help me grow in love. Why is love so significant in our lives? Have you ever considered this question? Who would you be without love? Love is the way to freedom. It liberates us by choosing it over fear, resentment, and attachment. When we trust in love, we stop controlling outcomes and allow life to flow gracefully. As Walt Disney said: “There are few heights that can’t be scaled by someone who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret can be summarized in four C’s: they are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage and Constancy, and the greatest of these is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe it all the way. Have confidence in your ability to do it right. And work hard to do the best possible job.” We build confidence through consistent action. Think about learning a new skill, like riding a bicycle. It might feel impossible at first, but with patience and practice, you find your balance and master the skill. For me, 2024 revealed something significant: I thrive best within a clear and intentional structure. Without it, I find my energy scattering in too many directions. Following a clear structure was a powerful realization that reinforced how much I value creating order and flow in my life. What about you? Let's choose what we carry forward with care and intention, ensuring it aligns with the person we're becoming. Reflecting on Your 2024 Achievements Next, let's review your year through the lens of achievement. Have you reached the goals you set at the start of 2024? Or perhaps, like me, you've made progress but haven't entirely checked everything off your list. That's perfectly okay, too. The most significant gift of this year for me, in terms of achievement, has been gaining greater clarity about my next steps. Even if I haven't achieved every goal, I've stayed committed to the path. And that, beautiful soul, is what truly matters. Success is not about perfection but the progressive realization of a worthy goal. Gratitude is more than a feeling; it's a way of seeing the world, a mindset that transforms how we live and experience life. But before we step into this week's theme, let's take a moment to reflect on the incredible work you've done over the past four weeks: On Week 1: Unlocking Happiness We began with the foundational practice of daily gratitude, focusing on the little things in life that bring us joy. The goal was to unlock happiness by noticing and appreciating life's simple, precious moments. On Week 2: The Gift of Gratitude We shifted our focus to the people in our lives. We practised expressing gratitude to those who uplifted us and even reflected on the lessons learnt from those who challenged us. Gratitude became a gift: something we could give and receive. On Week 3: Harvesting Hope We explored how gratitude nurtures hope. Inspired by Nelson Mandela's resilience, we learnt to find light even in life's darkest moments and to see the goodness in both ourselves and others. On Week 4: Mindful Gratitude We slowed down and embraced mindfulness with a guided gratitude meditation. This practice invited us to connect deeply with the present moment, appreciating the little things we often take for granted, like the changing seasons, the sound of birdsong, or the comforts of home. Today, we'll explore the powerful connection between mindfulness and gratitude through soothing gratitude meditation. Thank you for joining me for episode 369 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. This week, we will focus on appreciating the little things in life, those daily gifts that often go unnoticed. Let's begin this beautiful practice together as we deepen our awareness and gratitude for life's simple yet profound moments. Adopting a spirit of gratitude reminds us to be present. According to the mindfulness expert Jon Kabat-Zinn, mindfulness is: "The awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally." Mindfulness invites us to slow down, connect with our senses, and fully embrace each moment. When paired with gratitude, mindfulness transforms how we see and experience the world, helping us uncover beauty and joy in the simplest details. Let's begin: Hello and welcome to this gratitude meditation, where we will express gratitude for the little things in life and the daily gifts that often go unnoticed. Let's begin by calming the mind as you sit or lie comfortably. Allow your mind to become more comfortable too. Close your eyes now and start to focus on your breathing, breathing in more deeply than you usually do and exhaling more slowly. Observing the breath is a great way to bring the mind into a state of focus. Take your time breathing: letting it move slowly and effortlessly. Then, shift your awareness from breath to your body, feeling the floor beneath you. Now, think about the room or space you are in. How does it feel to be here? What is that place like? Begin to notice the little things around you that you might take for granted as you go about your busy days. Think of this room as a shelter, a haven, keeping you safe from the outside elements and well-protected and comfortable. Feel the air on your skin and notice what it feels like. Warm or cold, appreciate the temperature of the air that surrounds you. Notice the sounds in this room now. Perhaps you hear a ticking clock, the hum of a fan or the murmur of voices. You may pause this recording or lower the volume if necessary as you observe. Rather than considering these sounds as noises or distractions, lend them some appreciation. Think of each sound as an opportunity to explore your surroundings and become more mindful of all the moving parts here. Just listen. Be present. Again, you may pause the recording or lower the volume if necessary. Breathe deeply now and see what you can smell. See if you can uncover scents you may not have realized were there. Inhaling through the nose as you pick up on subtle aromas. Perhaps you smell the wood of the floor beneath you or of the walls around you. Maybe you can smell flowers, plants, or soil or notice other scents drifting in through the window or from another room. Just breathe, explore, and appreciate this moment of mindfulness. If the smell or any other sense is absent, that is okay, too. Just notice what you notice. Now, extend your awareness to the outside of your immediate surroundings. Think about your entire home and everything within it. Bring to mind the things you use daily to help your life run more smoothly: alarm clocks, fridges, sinks, closets, clothes, lamps. See yourself going through a typical day but moving more slowly through it, more mindfully, taking your time getting dressed, washing up, eating, and working. Imagine taking the time each day to express gratitude for all of these modern conveniences. Try not to dwell on the haves and have-nots. Appreciate every aspect of your daily experience. Continue to breathe deeply, setting an intention to move more mindfully throughout each day starting right now. Extending your awareness even further now as you think of the world outside. Think of the blue sky above, the sun, the trees that offer shade, and the soil beneath your feet. Think of the seasons: Autumn with its deep, rich colours and crisp breeze. Picture the perfect winter day with a warm cup of tea or coffee and a comforting fireplace. Breathe in the dewy freshness of spring, watching flowers bloom as the full warmth of the sun returns to the earth. Think of the slow, lazy days of summer soaking up the sunlight, savouring sweet, ripe fruits and cool, refreshing drinks. Continue to express appreciation for the changing seasons and the gifts each one brings. Now, it's easy to find gratitude for everything that runs smoothly in our lives, but how about the bumps in the road? We can be thankful for these little life lessons too. The spilt milk. The flat tire. The seemingly endless grocery line. All of the little errands or minor annoyances that pepper our days. Every mishap offers us a chance to slow down. The change is to live in the present moment and focus on the matters at hand. Imagine navigating these bumps in the road gracefully and easily, effortlessly going with the flow and keeping a cool, calm head. Adopting a "come what may" attitude. Breathe in deeply now, pulling the air as far into the body as is comfortable. And a slow, letting-go breath as you release all stress. Another deep inhale and slow exhale, releasing expectation. And take a few more slow breaths, letting go of anything that prevents you from experiencing gratitude. Releasing all blocks, letting all inner barriers to gratitude dissolve, and inhaling clarity and relaxation instead. Engage with a peaceful, steady rhythm of your breath as you continue to invite gratitude into this experience. In the wise words of author G. K Chesterton, "When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." Let that sentiment sink in: "The critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." Commit to turning all of your 'for granted' into gratitude, mindfully working through your life and making an effort to notice more, feel more, and see more. Take a couple more deep breaths, fully integrating this idea of taking everything with gratitude. And when you are ready, breathe naturally, and become aware of your body again. Feel the floor beneath you, the air against your skin. Notice the sounds around you as you slowly allow your eyes to open, taking everything in. You are here right now. As you continue your day or night, let's commit to taking everything with gratitude. May this time of reflection and togetherness fill your heart with love and warmth. Since Thanksgiving is a celebration of gratitude, let's go deeper into its transformative power. Being grateful is not a fleeting practice; it's a habit that grows stronger with trust, deepens our faith in the divine and lights the path of Hope. Even in life's grimmest moments, gratitude opens our hearts to recognize the love and abundance around us. We cannot neglect the power of gratitude because we align with the energy of love, even in the grimmest moments. The Power of Gratitude and Hope Gratitude reminds us of our connection to love, even in challenging times. To reflect on this, let's draw inspiration from the life of Nelson Mandela. In his autobiography, Mandela shared a profound truth about humanity and hope that sustained him through the harsh reality of imprisonment. He chose to believe in the inherent goodness in every heart, even in the darkest moments. Here is an excerpt that captures this beautifully: "I always knew that deep down in every human heart, there was mercy and generosity. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite. Thank you for choosing to spend this time with me as we continue to explore the transformative power of gratitude. How did last week’s gratitude practice go for you? Did you take the time to pause and reflect on the simplest things in life that bring you joy? Perhaps you captured those moments in photos or sketches or cherished them in your heart. Our first step in week 1 was to practise gratitude daily to activate genuine happiness in our lives. You may find this practice challenging amidst the busyness of daily life. However, trust me, when you follow it through, it will become a common practice. Since gratitude is a practice that fills us with joy, this week, we’ll delve deeper into its beautiful and intricate ways of connecting us with the people in our lives. Gratitude is a gift we can give to others and also a gift we can give to ourselves. This week, we’ll reflect on two powerful questions that will help us experience gratitude in a whole new light. Your first reflection is: who are you most grateful for this year? Naturally, you will start with the individuals who have brought light and kindness into your life and shown you loving support and appreciation. They uplift us, see the best in us and inspire us to stay positive and keep moving forward. Think of them, and fill your heart with gratitude for their presence. Whilst this first reflection matters, let’s take our gratitude practice deeper, shall we? The second reflection is: who are you most grateful for that has challenged you profoundly? Here is where the true transformation begins. Think about the people who have pushed your red button, tested you or caused discomfort this year. They may be individuals with whom you’ve experienced tension, disagreement, or even conflict. It’s easy to feel gratitude for those who bring ease into our lives, but challenges often teach us the most profound lessons. These are the people who have helped you grow. They may have tested your patience, stirred your emotions, or made you question yourself, but in doing so, they became your best teachers. They showed you what you needed to hear, where you needed to grow, and how you could love more deeply. Take a moment to imagine one of these challenging relationships. Perhaps it’s someone you disagreed with, someone who didn’t meet your expectations or even someone whose presence unsettled you. Reflect on how these experiences helped you grow. Now, picture turning those emotionally intense moments into love by fostering understanding. When we stop seeking to be understood and instead choose to understand, we unlock the healing power of compassion. Let me repeat this sentence. In its essence, forgiveness is about “giving love forward.” This transformation from frustration to clarity, peace and love allows us to release anger, disappointment, and resentment. Gratitude for these relationships becomes a way of saying: “Thank you for helping me grow in love.” By choosing to be grateful for the growth spurred by conflict, you release the hold of negative emotions and begin to see the world with newfound clarity. Only in Love can you see clearly. The next step is expressing your gratitude. As William Arthur Ward said: “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Take time this week to reach out to those who matter most to you. Let them know how much they mean to you, whether it’s a parent, a friend, a mentor or someone who played a pivotal role in your growth this year. Remember to include the individuals who have challenged you, when you compile your gratitude list. Thank them for the lessons, wisdom, and opportunity to grow in the energy of love. Gratitude transforms these relationships into blessings. This week, your daily gratitude practice is twofold. Reflect on the people you are most grateful for this year. Reflect on the people you are thankful for who have challenged you the most. Write these reflections down, and if you feel ready, express your gratitude to these individuals, whether through words, a letter, or simply holding them in your heart with love and appreciation. Welcome to the first week of our Gratitude Experiment. We are gently unlocking the door of happiness this week by opening our hearts to gratitude in the simplest, most beautiful ways. When we pause and take notice, we start to see that happiness is not a destination, but it’s present with us, waiting for us to notice it in tiny, precious moments. I'm excited to embark on our seven weeks of gratitude journey with you. I invite you to play full-on and have a fun experience. Before we start, ground yourself and take seven deep breaths in and out. So you breathe in deeply and breathe out slowly seven times. Gently close your eyes, if it's safe for you to do so, and imagine the positive impact focusing on gratitude will have on your life. The purpose of this experiment is to guide you gently towards a long-term gratitude practice you do daily. Longitudinal studies suggest that regular gratitude practice over time has enduring positive effects. Let us now review why gratitude increases your happiness: An attitude of gratitude uplifts our spirits and increases our mental and physical well-being. How do you feel when you are thankful to someone else? When we focus on the negative, “what does not work,” the doom and gloom, gratitude brings us back to our aliveness and positivity. Expressing gratitude extends our love as we recognize the goodness in our lives, even through the ups and downs. It also helps us cope with stress and buffers the impact of life’s challenges. Therefore, gratitude helps us activate and optimize positive emotions like joy, happiness, satisfaction, optimism and contentment. Focusing on the positive aspects of life with a regular gratitude practice is linked to greater life satisfaction and fosters a more positive outlook. Indeed, neuroscientific research indicates that a grateful mind has measurable positive effects on brain regions related to social bonding, empathy, and emotional processing. Another benefit worth noting is the link between gratitude and higher levels of self-esteem: recognizing and appreciating our strengths contributes to a positive self-image. So let’s do it! Let’s increase our gratitude this week by deepening our love, hope and faith. Gratitude is the starting point of happiness. Let’s return to Love. Love is our salvation, and it is essential to intensify that energy in times of doubt, disappointment, frustration, anger, stress and despair. Take a deep breath into your heart centre, in the middle of your chest, and your physical heart, and align your thinking with abundance as you say thank you from the depth of your heart. This week, we will practise gratitude by gently opening ourselves to life’s wonders, little by little. Every day, take a moment to identify three things you are grateful for. These can be small, ordinary, or even unexpected. It could include things that lift your spirit, and bring a little spark of joy into your day. Like the comforting warmth of your favourite drink, a stroll in the park, the song of a bird, or a moment of stillness when you just breathe. By being grateful for life's simple pleasures, you raise your energy to a state of appreciation and positivity, viewing life with warmth. Here is your daily reflection: Write these moments down, letting yourself linger with each one and feeling the happiness they bring. Even a few words are enough to capture the feeling. Each reflection becomes a key, unlocking happiness and lighting up your heart. Remember: “When you say yes! to love, you say yes! to life.” Gratitude is a notable well-being enhancer. The more grateful you are, the more blessings you attract when you align with the energy of appreciation. To make it fun this week, take photos or draw the simple things in life you are most grateful for. As you progress through this week, notice how gratitude can transform your perspective on each day.
