Metabolic MD Episode 39 -Cholesterol or Blood Sugar Which One Should I Worry More About
Manage episode 421020950 series 3550807
Low Carb diets are great for preventing prediabetes and diabetes, and, of course, losing weight. For nearly 10 years Dr. Paul has helped patients “go low carb”, to reverse insulin resistance, and avoid the blood vessel diseases caused by high blood glucose (kidney failure, strokes, heart attacks, etc.). But low carb diets are almost always high in fat. Does eating low carb mean a higher cholesterol level will follow? Usually not, but occasionally a higher fat diet will result in a higher cholesterol level. Is that higher cholesterol then a problem? In this podcast Dr. Paul is joined by Lipidologist (cholesterol expert) Dr. Richard Saxon. They discuss how low carb, higher fat diets can be the solution for not only overweight/obesity but many metabolic health issues like prediabetes and high blood pressure. They also discuss how in that minority of patients who have preexisting cholesterol issues, or cholesterol issues exacerbated by low carb, higher cholesterol can be effectively evaluated and treated.
