Joining via zoom is Jessica from the very cold Kansas City, Missouri. Jessica is a retired Police Sgt. who's career was unexpectedly cut short, which like most, she was not prepared for. Jessica started Next Shift and became a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) transition coach in order to help our LEO community be prepared to adapt to life after being an LEO.
In our community, we don't know what each shift has in store for us, which is pretty scary. Similar to Jessica's experience, there have been several LEO's who's careers took an immediate halt unexpectedly and never thought their career would be over prior to their retirement.
Jessica shares some of the challenges regarding retirement in our community such as a lack of structure, figuring out a second career, no longer sense of belonging, loss of identity, forgotten about by the department, rewiring your brain and body to retirement conditions, and more...
Through Next Shift, Jessica offers a free monthly zoom meeting for LEO's (active/retired), which is a safe place to talk freely and look out for each other. Also, Jessica talks about the importance of a daily habit structure, offers 25 skills for LEO's that that correlate to other jobs, in addition to individual coaching for LEO's.
