Do you feel, at times, that you need to declutter your mind because you feel overwhelmed and struggle with interrupting your inner chatter?

Hi, I'm Pascale Gibon. Welcome to episode 244 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. Thank you for tuning in.

You might have developed habits that clutter your mind.

When is your mind cluttered?

Your mind is cluttered when:

  • You overthink
  • You worry a lot and feel anxious
  • Stress gets the better of you
  • You struggle with making decisions
  • You overstretch yourself as you try to carry out too many tasks, and too many things are going on.
  • You are concerned about the people around you, like a parent, a partner, a child being ill.
  • You are a student learning new things.

These are just a few examples.

Constant worrying thoughts clutter your mind, and you have not found a way to release them and invite more ease and positivity into your life.

What are your predominant thoughts?

Are they mainly negative? If your mind feels cluttered right now, it is most likely so.

A cluttered mind feels heavy and overburdened. It prevents you from seeing things with clarity.

I invite you in this episode to declutter your mind by considering the following ideas:

  • Decluttering your mind means letting go of accumulated thoughts, like worries, doubts and indecisions. By doing so, you make space for new energy and a healthier way of thinking.
  • Avid personal development students are solutions focused. Therefore, as you observe your mind, you can identify the thoughts you are preoccupied by. There are things that you can control and things that are beyond your control. I suggest you let go of the latter to free your mind of clutter. You free your mind when you disrupt recurring thoughts that no longer serve you and are beyond your control.

Does it make sense?

Disrupting recurring thoughts that no longer serve you is particularly relevant when you tend to bring into your present thinking past events that you may regret and cannot change. Work on letting them go.

  • Excessive inner chatter or overthinking stops you from thinking clearly.

If you struggle with overwhelm, you need to organize your thoughts.

Be intentional in tackling one thing at a time.

You can reduce your overload when you focus your thoughts in an orderly way. You reduce your inner chatter when you focus your mind on one thing at a time instead of multiple ones. Journaling or writing things down is a great way to see things more clearly and declutter your mind. As you download onto paper your concerns, you reduce their effects.

  • If you struggle with making decisions, become a better decision-maker by building self-confidence. You are hesitant and struggle with decision-making because you fear making mistakes. Trust your heart and increase your assertiveness.
  • If you are concerned about the people around you, like a parent, a partner, a child, etc., hold a healthy and positive space for them. Shift the energy around whatever negativity is going on for them into something positive. You can send them blessings, light and healing. Albert Einstein said that imagination is a powerful tool and is more important than knowledge. In addition, if you are a carer, nurture your well-being.
  • If you are a student, you probably need to pace the way you study so that you do not overwhelm yourself. Even though students tend to revise at the last minute, consistent planning is essential. If you work and study, consider some ‘me time’ to re-energize. You can exercise at least five days a week for 20 minutes minimum, combining resistance work with a cardio workout or do the exercise you love best. Consider also using complementary therapies like massage or reflexology to unwind. This helped me considerably when I was a degree student. Exercising is a great way to uplift and declutter the mind.
  • Be mindful of the times you tend to multi-task and clutter the mind even more. Do you have the habit of checking your mobile phone while you eat ? Do you try to relax and still remain attached to your phone? Your mind gets distracted from the essentials, enjoying a great meal or simply relaxing.
  • A great way to declutter the mind is to include some fun time, like your favourite past-time, listening to some music, playing an instrument, watching a comedy or letting your hair down.

My preferred way of decluttering the mind is a meditation practice.

I recommend some meditation focusing on releasing. I practice this meditation sometimes at the end of a workday.

Here is how you can release it:

  • Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths in from your belly and out through your nose or mouth. In a meditative state, observe and feel any tension in your body and release it by saying: "release" or "let go." Since you intend to declutter the mind, focus on your head, and if you feel any heaviness, say: "release." This contemplation is very effective. Allow some quiet time for at least 10-20 minutes. However, if this is not possible, you can do a walking meditation. You can release whilst walking and say: "release." I hope this is clear.

The more you release, the lighter you will feel. Remember that your intention is to feel and let go of any emotion (or energy in motion) expressed in the body that results from the clutter in your mind.

  • And lastly, your external environment is a reflection of your inner world. Therefore, now is a great time to spring-clean your home and work environment. Do you need to make space for new energy in your home or workspace? Are there things you no longer need that need to go?

Declutter your space to increase your clarity of mind. Order in your home and workspace will create order in your mind.

In this episode, I have shared various ideas on decluttering the mind to increase your energy. However, remember that common sense is not common practice. You will feel lighter instead of contracted when you apply at least one or two things to declutter your mind.

I hope you enjoyed this episode. As always, now is your time to transform your life one step at a time. Get started!

I look forward to connecting with you next Monday. Have a fantastic week, take good care and lots of love.
