Fighting climate change means juggling a thousand moving parts, from how we power our cities to how insects sustain our ecosystems. Artificial intelligence is uniquely equipped to take on that scale of challenge, analyzing massive data sets, predicting problems before they happen, and unlocking solutions humans alone could never achieve. In this episode, hosts Dominique Silva and guest co-host Rebecca Handfield (BrainBox AI) speak with Jean-Simon Venne, co-founder of BrainBox AI and leader of the BrainBox business at Trane Technologies, and Dr. David Rolnick, Assistant Professor at McGill University and co-founder of Climate Change AI. They share how AI can slash building emissions, extend equipment life, and open up new frontiers in biodiversity research. We also take a behind-the-scenes look at Trane Technologies’ new AI Lab in Montreal, where the next generation of HVAC innovation is being designed and created. With a focus on practical applications over theory, the lab is harnessing AI as a powerful ally in the fight against climate change, while keeping ethics, responsibility, and trust at the center of every breakthrough. About Healthy Spaces Healthy Spaces is a podcast by Trane Technologies where experts and disruptors explore how climate technology and innovation are transforming the spaces where we live, work, learn and play. This season, hosts Dominique Silva and Scott Tew bring a fresh batch of uplifting stories, featuring inspiring people who are overcoming challenges to drive positive change across multiple industries. We’ll discover how technology and AI can drive business growth, and help the planet breathe a little bit easier. Listen and subscribe to Healthy Spaces on your favorite podcast platforms. Today’s question is: Why does loneliness matter and how can we build connection, community and belonging? I’m in conversation with Iona Lawrence. In 2016 Iona set up the Jo Cox Foundation in memory of her friend Jo Cox MP with her family. As founding Director of the Foundation Iona brought people together to campaign on the issues Jo had championed. Together they achieved the appointment of the world's first Minister for Loneliness and £20 million new funding for the issue and the development of the Great Get Together , which in partnership with the Big Lunch in 2017 saw over 9 million people across the UK come together for community celebrations inspired by Jo's belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. Today Iona works with a range of businesses, nonprofits and philanthropy organisations building collaborations and practical plans that build the stronger relationships and connected communities. Iona believes that prioritising good relationships fosters the belonging, understanding and solidarity needed to build a fairer and more equitable world. Today’s question is: How can we maximise our breathing to help our anxiety and emotions? I’m in conversation with Mel Holliday Mel Holliday started her career in podiatry both medical and surgical. She moved over to managing Chiselwood a bespoke furniture manufacturing company 33 years ago, foundered with her husband Martin. During that time Mel started doing voluntary projects in schools advising young people on business programs. She was invited to become a construction ambassador 2009 where she supports CITB locally to encourage young people to think about construction as a career, alongside helping them create CV mock interview and career fairs. In 2012 Mel became a member of the board for EBP and helped set up a charity OneMe becoming a chair for 2years (charity to support and help fund getting them into their chosen career). She is also on the advisory council for anti copyright in design ACID. In 2014 Mel started practicing NLP and completed her Masters in 2018. Alongside that she became curious about techniques she had started practicing to manage her daily stress. During her years helping and supporting young people Mel became increasingly aware of how young people were struggling with managing their stress. They appeared distracted and used their phones or social media to hide behind. Whilst thinking about what she wanted to do with her NLP she began to link how to her practices with a set of techniques that she knew has reduced and supported her own stress in the past. Piloting the models for both adult and children alike she has been able to create sets of workshops that are versatile and can be used for individuals wanting to help themselves, to corporate who can utilise the techniques to support their staff in stressful situations. Due to COVID-19 the programs stopped in March 2020. Being approached by a publisher Mel wrote a children's wellbeing book, illustrated by Rebecca Dyer based on characters which visually supported each program. The book Breathe With Bruce was published in September 2020 and id hoped will be one of a series of six books supporting children's health and wellbeing. There are educational tips both for teachers and parents to use alongside the book for daily practice.
