ADHDifference - RECHARGING
Manage episode 448538725 series 3573621
Julie Legg and Jel Legg chat about ADHD and Recharging – the need to re-energize our ADHD energy battery. The method used to recharge batteries really doesn't matter, but the outcome does.
They discuss the many forms in which recharging can occur and the fall-out that may result when batteries go flat! They chat about the need for ‘me time’, giving themselves permission to take time out, and the upside of a re-energised brain.
Topics discussed in this episode:
- ADHD is tiring!
- Planned and unplanned occasions to recharge (including micro-breaks).
- Different forms of mindfulness.
- How relaxing ‘downtime’ can become a stressful exercise when extra demands are put on ourselves.
- A change is as good as a rest.
- Passive socialising and people watching.
Key takeaways:
- While it may seem that people with ADHD have boundless energy, we are not superhuman and do need down-time to avoid burnout, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity and other ADHD traits that may be triggered when energy levels are low.
- For people that don't have ADHD, or those who don't fully understand how our ADHD brains work, having ‘me time’ or ‘down time’ can appear to be selfish or antisocial, but it is necessary to rebalance energy levels and quieten our very busy minds.
- Having a tool kit of ‘downtime’ moments may be required, as what may seem a relaxing activity to recharge may not feel as re-energising on another day.
