Stress can refer to both a psychological and physiological response to a challenging or threatening situation.

Psychological stress can be caused by a variety of factors such as work, relationships, financial problems, health issues, or major life changes. It is a feeling of emotional or mental strain that can manifest in symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and mood swings.

Physiological stress is the body's response to a perceived threat or challenge. When the body encounters a stressful situation, it triggers the "fight or flight" response, which releases hormones like adrenaline and cortisol that prepare the body to respond to the threat. Physiological stress can also manifest in physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, muscle tension, and sweating.

While some stress can be motivating and help individuals perform better, chronic or excessive stress can have negative impacts on both physical and mental health, including increased risk for cardiovascular disease, weakened immune system, and mental health disorders like depression and anxiety.
